Writing articles online is both a great way to generate traffic for your website as well as a way to make money. I don't mean making money through websites like eHow, but rather there are a lot of webmasters out there looking for great content writers, so if you like writing articles, researching new niches, and are capable of producing high levels of content, article writing might be right up your alley.

I did article writing for a time and was making an article at my best. This was high-volume article writing, as well, so when you stop to think that I was writing two of these 400 word articles in an hour, that's an hour just from writing articles.

Article writing is also a great way to generate traffic as I just mentioned. Article directories like this one provide valuable one-way back links to your web pages which is important for ranking in the search engines but at the same time it's important for generating traffic to your website as people read these articles as soon as you publish them, plus these articles sometimes even establish their own places in the search engines so they enjoy extra boost of traffic in the future without your having to do anything to get them there.

One of the most important aspects in learning how to write articles online is learning how to write an effective title. This is the only thing people will see on the article directory itself or in the search engines before they read your article. Because of this, you need your article's title to sell the rest of your article for you.

Certain titles generate more clicks than others. For example, # of tip articles always perform very well because people like to learn things and providing a finite number of something sets up an expectation for that reader and often encourages them to click on your article because it peaks their interest in wanting to see the tips which you include. You're not limited to tips, of course. You can use "# of reasons, ways to" etc.

"How to" titles also perform very well because again people like to learn things and the implications with this title is that your reader will learn whatever it is you are writing about over the course of that article.

For the actual text and body of your article, you don't have to adhere to any specific format like you learned in high school of intro, three paragraphs, conclusion. I've found that the more paragraphs which you use when it comes to writing articles online, the better. Break up your paragraphs whenever natural because people find it much easier to read 10 shorter paragraphs about something then reading three or four large blocky paragraphs. It's also much easier to keep your reader's attention with more paragraphs.

Finally, your resource box is the part of the article which is for your promotional purposes and you can include links back to your own websites. Make sure you employ a very strong call to action to really motivate your reader to take action after setting them up over the course of the rest of that article.

Everything which you have done to that point between the title and text is useless unless you get them to take action, so that call to action is paramount.
